Women In Business

The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Women In Business Mentoring Program pairs up young ladies from local high schools with prominent women from the local business scene. They attend shadowing days, a fashion show, and the annual business expo for the LCCI during their year of participation.

Happy Lancaster

Happy Lancaster was a whirlwind idea brought to me by the Lancaster County Community Foundation.  We wanted to make a video showing off our wonderful city of Lancaster, PA with a modern music twist. Inspired by Pharrell Williams “Happy” music video, cities from all over the world have started creating their own versions.  Here is the original version from Pharrell Williams below.

Our team came together on a Sunday afternoon to brainstorm locations and iconic figures for Happy Lancaster.  We recruited a dance team from F & M, local baseball mascot Cylo, and even Mayor Rick Gray among others.  Tuesday was a full day of shooting from 9am to 8pm.  Wednesday was editing.  Thursday was the preview and upload.  Friday we watched as the number of views climbed past 10,000 in the first 12 hours.

I could not have put this together without help from the Lancaster County Community Foundation, Shop Lancaster, and of course my second shooter, Karlo Gesner of Karlo Photography.  Special thanks to everyone that put up with our shenanigans for the day:  Lancaster Central Market, Mayor Rick Gray, Lancaster Barnstormers, Franklin & Marshall, Iron Hill Brewery, Prince Street Cafe, Heads Up Kids, The Infantree, Envy Studio, and Roaring Brook Market

Jazz and Wine

The Jazz and Wine mixer, held at Commonwealth On Queen, was a collaboration between Karlo Photography and Niki Lannigan Events & Design.  Vendors within the wedding industry were invited to mix and mingle in this fresh new downtown space.  Participating companies included Miesse Candies, Lancaster Brewing Company, GP Film & Photography & Flowers by Paulette. Music filled the room courtesy of the Don Grabowski Trio while business cards were traded and new connections were made.

With the solid turnout and positive response from vendors,  the team hopes to continue hosting similar Jazz and Wine mixers specific to the wedding industry.  Be sure to check out the vendors social media accounts to stay in the loop!

Friendship Heart Gallery Art Auction

The Friendship Heart Gallery Art Auction is held yearly to raise funds for the Friendship Heart Gallery and it’s inspiring artists. Successful local artists like Liz Hess and Freiman Stoltzfus donate paintings and portions of their sales alongside works from the artists at Friendship Heart Gallery. This year the art auction is being held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster, PA on February 28th.

Friendship Heart Gallery Art AuctionTickets –

GP Film and Photography was responsible for producing a 4-5 minute piece out of 12 interviews from sponsors and contributing artists to tell the story of Friendship Heart Gallery Art Auction on February 28th, 2014.  We interviewed a group of 12 people from sponsors to volunteers to contributing artists about why they support the Friendship Heart Gallery Art Auction.

From that 4-5 minute piece, GP Film & Photography was asked to create a 30 second teaser for broadcast purposes. Here’s what an hour and half of voice over and 3 hours of filming cut down to 30 seconds looks like. Enjoy!

Architectural Photography: Power Plant

My most recent architectural photography session took me to a power plant near of Pittsburgh, PA. The trip was commissioned by Day & Zimmermann. The goal was to capture media for use in print advertising as well as online.

It was scheduled as a full day of shooting, leaving Lancaster at 8:00 am and returning around 11:30pm.  After a safety debriefing, we started our tour of the plant.  The massive structure was crawling with workers welding, cutting, and stacking.  For the morning session I concentrated on the interior of the plant and the workers themselves.  While I did use an on camera flash for some of the shots, a good portion were shot in natural light.  For obvious safety reasons, work areas were very well lit and offered a great contrast against the naturally dark structure.  Even at high noon, very little light penetrated the facility.

After lunch we drove around the plant on back-roads, looking for scenic shots of the plant in its entirety.  Once we found a high enough perch, we waited for night to fall.  I got a chance to experiment with some HDR (high dynamic range) shots and the multiple levels of lights adorning the facility.  The nature of architectural photography and shooting large scale scenes can certainly try ones patience.  Waiting to watch the sun go down was a drawn out and 2 hours, but offered a wide range of lighting for the architectural photography.

2013 Extraordinary Give Recap

The Extraordinary Give is truly a community-wide celebration of giving. On November 22, 2013, Lancaster County came together to shine a light on all the community benefit organizations that make our community great. We rallied around the organizations that are transforming lives and raised more than $3.2 million for 260 local organizations in a 24 hour period. Downtown Lancaster was abuzz with activities from musical acts to public performances. The Lancaster Marriott hosted the LCCF as the center for giving, where we set up our time lapse footage.  Local venue Tellus360 also hosted musicians and performers throughout the day and had computers available for people to participate and donate to the Extraordinary Give.

Special thanks to the Lancaster County Community Foundation and all of the events sponsors for putting on this truly extraordinary community event!

Will you join us in 2014?

Extraordinary Give Thank You

New Years Wedding with Florescio Films

This year I continued my trend of ignoring and neglecting to celebrate New Years, by far my least favorite holiday. Instead, I seized the opportunity to capture a New Years wedding with Florescio Films.  It’s always a pleasure working with this talented and professional crew.  I was hired as the second shooter for the event.  Patrick Florescio was the director and editor, with his right hand man Chris Rivera as the primary shooter.  We also had the luxury of an assistant and third shooter in Stephanie Ramones.  The Park Savoy, in Florham Park, NJ, is a magnificent setting for both indoor and outdoor weddings.  Vaulted ceilings, grand fire places, and a stunning view over a golf course stand out both in person and on film.

Glinda and Oz

It was a surprise when I was asked by Karlo to be a part of the Glinda and Oz shoot.    Modeling for Karlo Photography was a great way to experience what it feels like to be captured in both photographs and video at the same time.   Sometimes it can help to get on the other side of the camera.  It proved to be an outstanding networking opportunity as well.  It was the first time I met the Florescio Films crew and got to watch them in action.  You can watch their recap video at the bottom of this blog posting.
